Remote Learning Plan


Remote Learning

As a result of Governor Cuomo’s decision on August 7, 2020, the Bay Shore School 黑料网 will now be offering a K-12 Remote Learning option for those who do not feel comfortable sending their children to school and/or with high-risk family members in their household. The Remote Learning option will be limited in its offerings and focus on the core subjects and those required for graduation. Parents who elect for the full Remote Learning option, will be required to have their children learn remotely for the first semester (January 29, 2021).


Elementary K-6 

Rationale

Elementary students (K-6) will receive synchronous instruction four (4) days per week and asynchronous learning one (1) day per week (Wednesday). Instruction will be aligned to essential learning outcomes in the following areas:  ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, Social Emotional and Physical Education.  Teachers will use Seesaw (K-2) or Google Classroom (3-6) as the main learning management platform through which instruction will be supported. 

 

Learning Structure

  • The school day will start at 9:00 am for all K-6 students and attendance will be taken.

  • Students will follow a schedule each day.

  • Remote Learning will be a blend of synchronous and asynchronous learning in core subject areas and physical education.

  • At least two (2) hours of whole class instruction will be provided each day.

  • There will be an ELA  and Math block in addition to science, social studies and time for small group instruction.  

  • Students will be required to attend all sessions.

  • Each student is required to have an individual device to use for Remote Learning.

Bay Shore Middle School

Rationale

Bay Shore Middle School students (grades 7-8) will receive synchronous instruction four (4) days per week and asynchronous learning one (1) day per week (Wednesday).   Instruction will be aligned to essential learning outcomes in the following areas:  ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, World Language, and Physical Education. In addition to synchronous and asynchronous instruction, teachers will use the G Suite platform (i.e. Google Docs, Google Classroom, Google Meet) to share assignments and learning resources, review student work, provide feedback to assess work, and grade assignments. Students will check Google Classroom and their school emails for information from their teachers, and they will submit work in their teachers’ Google Classrooms. Due to staffing implications, we are not able to offer all courses provided in the Hybrid Learning model.


Learning Structure

  • Students will follow a schedule developed by the remote teacher.

  • During Remote Learning, students are required to attend all sessions and attendance will be taken for each course.

  • Remote Learning will be a blend of synchronous and asynchronous learning in ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, World Language, and Physical Education.

  • Synchronous learning will be approximately forty (40) minutes per course for grades 7 and 8 daily.

  • Remote teacher will maintain all grading and progress.

  • Each student is required to have an individual device to use for Remote Learning.


Bay Shore High School

Rationale

Bay Shore High School students (grades 9-12) will receive synchronous instruction four (4) days per week and asynchronous learning one (1) day per week (Wednesday).  Instruction will be aligned to essential learning outcomes in all courses and students will follow their regularly scheduled classes.    In addition to to synchronous and asynchronous instruction, teachers will use the G Suite platform (i.e. Google Docs, Google Classroom, Google Meet) to share assignments and learning resources, review student work, provide feedback to assess work, and grade assignments. The asynchronous learning day (Wednesday) will continue to be used for new instruction, remediation, intervention, and support for students. 


Bay Shore High School (anticipated)

Remote learning students (Off-Site Learning) will follow their regularly scheduled classes four (4) days per week and asynchronous learning one (1) day per week (Wednesday).  The schedules will be distributed by Bay Shore High School.
