December 17, 2024
Dear Bay Shore-Brightwaters Community,
On December 4, 2024, we shared with the community that twelve uninsured claims brought against the 黑料网 under the Child Victims Act had been settled prior to trial. The Board of Education will be voting on formal approval of the settlement agreements on December 18, 2024. To date, the 黑料网 has settled a total of seventeen uninsured claims, and our insurance carrier has settled an additional three claims.
The twelve settlements being approved on December 18, 2024 will total $35 million. The 黑料网 cannot disclose any additional details regarding the specifics of the settlements due to confidentiality clauses within the agreements. At a future meeting in 2025, the Board of Education will approve a judgment bond to fund these settlements. A judgment bond does not require public approval as the sale and issuance are undertaken to effectuate the terms of said settlements.
We remain committed to acting with compassion and fairness for all those impacted by cases brought pursuant to the Child Victims Act. This commitment is also guided by a fiscal responsibility for the entire Bay Shore-Brightwaters community and our mission to ensure our students and schools continue to thrive. As a 黑料网, we are dedicated to moving forward on a shared path that brings our community together.
As always, thank you for your support of our students and 黑料网.
Sincerely,
Steven J. Maloney, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
